Why We Started

Bambelou was born from a moment of frustration that every parent knows.

We were searching for a birthday gift for our child — something beautiful, safe, and genuinely worth playing with — and we kept hitting the same wall. Vague safety labels. Materials listed as "plastic" with no further detail. Age recommendations that felt guessed rather than tested. Products that looked wonderful in photos but arrived cheaply made, with small parts that hadn't been mentioned anywhere.

We were shocked at how hard it was to simply trust what we were buying.

So in 2024, we built Bambelou to be the store we wished existed. A place where every product has been chosen by parents who actually care — not just listed and forgotten.

Who We Are

We are a small, independent UK children's toy company based in London. We specialise in safe, sensory, and developmentally enriching toys for babies, toddlers, and young children aged 0 to 8 years.

We are not a marketplace. We are not a dropshipping catalogue. Every toy in our collection has been hand-selected against a clear set of criteria — and if it does not meet our standards, it does not make it onto our shelves. Full stop.

How We Choose Our Products

Before any toy joins the Bambelou collection, it goes through our selection process. We ask ourselves the same questions every time:

Is it safe?
We check that every product meets recognised UK and EU safety standards — including CE marking where required. We prioritise non-toxic materials: natural wood, BPA-free plastics, and child-safe fabrics. We are transparent about every age recommendation, and we do not list products with known choking hazards, exposed electrical components, or restricted material types — no matter how popular they may be elsewhere.

Is it genuinely good quality?
We look for toys that are built to last, not to impress for five minutes. We ask: will this still be played with in six months? Is it worth the price? Would we buy it for our own children?

Does it have real developmental value?
We select toys that do something — that spark imagination, develop motor skills, encourage problem-solving, or simply inspire the kind of deep, focused play that children need. We do not chase trends for the sake of them.

If a toy passes all three, it earns its place in our collection. If it does not, it does not matter how popular or profitable it might be.

Every toy we carry is checked for:

CE marking confirmed by our suppliers, in line with EN71 toy safety requirements
Non-toxic materials — natural wood, BPA-free plastics, child-safe paints and fabrics
Accurate age recommendations — displayed clearly on every single product page
No hidden hazards — we do not list products with undisclosed small parts, sharp edges, or restricted substances

We also stay up to date with UK trading standards and consumer safety regulations, and we take immediate action if any safety concern is raised about a product in our range.
